The 2008 edition of the Mayor’s took place at the Town Hall Auditorium during the annual Borough day Celebrations and as usual Trinidad & Tobago’s best dancers attended dressed to the max.
There were different dance competitions and prizes were awarded to the best dressed male and female.

WILMA, FRED, BETTY & PEBBLES @ BEDROCK
It was billed as South’s Best “All Inclusive” fete; however “Bedrock the Experience” can be voted among the best ever all inclusive fetes in the Caribbean. The management committee of this event should really be proud of this venture.
Beginning with a very spacious venue, the Lake Asphalt administration grounds in La Brea provided the perfect ambience for an evening with good music provided by Roy Cape All Stars. Stalin and Explainer were also on the cast.
As part of the décor for the Bedrock theme, patrons entered the fete through a cave tunnel and once inside, were greeted by Fred, Betty, Barney and Betty dancing atop a platform. There was also the Bedrock volcano which spewed smoke throughout the evening.
Food and drink stalls were erected throughout the venue enabling patrons to have easy access to whatever they desired, whether it be cocktails, Bake & Shark, rotisserie hog, premium liquor or any of the featured delicacies which were served. The stalls carried names which became associated with the Pitch Lake, i.e. Sir Walter Raleigh Food Court, Brighton Bucket Delights, Pitch Pot Courts, TLA Liquid Corner etc. For those with tired legs or who preferred to relax a bit, a comfortable porch was available for use.
The entertainment provided by The Roy Cape All Stars was as usual, fantastic; Featuring 2008 Road March Contender, Blaxx with his monster hit “Breathless”, young and very energetic, Olatungi Yearwood and the super sexy Trini Jacobs, daughter of popular local songstress of the 80’s Carol Jacobs who was present at the event. Aslo present was world renowned Jazz pianist Raf Robertson who is also a La Brea Boy.
Party-Goers we spoke to indicated that they truly enjoyed the evening and were satisfied with the organizers for having a well put together event. Some even indicated that it was the best they attended and is eagerly awaiting tickets for next year’s event.

The fete which has been dubbed as the “Yankee Fete” went to a different level this year when for the first time, a live band was included into the musical line up. The band of choice was “Kess D Band”, a relatively young band with a very much self motivated frontline singer, Kess DeFanthalier (Spell check).
This move proved to be the correct one since it raised the energy level in the fete which in previous years more or less provided the atmosphere to simply hang out with the “Yankees” who had just landed.
This year the patrons were actually partying and speaking with a few, we were informed that they enjoyed the fete more than the previous years. This was most evident when daybreak came and the music ended, there were still hundreds of party-goers on the grounds waiting for more.
Fete promoters “Point Fortin Originals” host this annual fete and use the funds generated to make donations towards charitable cases in Point Fortin and environs.

The annual Liverpool Fete was held on Friday May 25th. This fete which can be described as the unofficial “kick-off” for the Borough Celebrations, changed venue this year from The Liverpool’s residence on E-Street Junction to the Fanny Village Community Centre.
Patrons had no complaints about the new venue but were a bit disappointed when the fete ended at approximately 7:30am. Some patrons told Pointalive.com that whenever they attend a “Liverpool” fete, they expect not to leave before 10:00am.
We spoke to the fete organizers, “The Crew”, who informed us that the venue was previously booked for a wedding on the Saturday. Therefore, the fete ended to make way for wedding preparations. However, for 2009, “The Crew” plans to book the venue for 2 days so as to avoid a similar occurrence.
Apart from the minor disappointment, patrons were treated to live performances by Calypsonians Duke and Baron. During the fete, a monetary token was collected as an additional appreciative contribution for The Mighty Duke. The amount totaled $1700.
