VILLA CAPRI NO MORE

THE END OF AN ERA
VILLA CAPRI IS NO MORE
Southern House Of Pleasure Doors Closed For Good

I know that many may be a bit confused as to why I chose to write a blog on this topic.  However, since it was highlighted in the local media, I have heard numerous comments either in favor of or against it.  The contentious topic is the permanent closure of “The Villa de Capri” simply called “Villa Capri” or just “Villa”.

It has been reported that the business closed its doors to the public after the death of the proprietor a few weeks ago.  This resulted in his wife taking control and making the decision that the long standing institution will be no more.

When word hit the streets about the closure, many could not believe that it was the truth.  Some of you (very few) maybe asking now, what was the business of “Villa Capri”?  Well, Villa Capri was a house of pleasure, probably the most prominent establishment in Trinidad & Tobago where Pleasure Dolls, otherwise known to wider public as Prostitutes were employed.  On any given night or even day, there was no shortage of clients.  This happens despite the fact that the general business conducted is illegal in this country.  A visit inside the vistabella, San Fernando compound will immediately arouse any pleasure seeking male because of the assortment of “dolls” which he is greeted with.

While the general view is that such an institution breeds immorality, there is another view that there is a need for the services provided.  Many taxi drivers from Point Fortin and Point Lisas are now saying that they have lost business because of the closure.  “George”, a Point Fortin Taxi Driver said he had a good “hustle” whenever ships came in at Atlantic LNG.  Upon arrival, crew members would immediately seek transport to “Villa” and back.  For this run he could easily earn $200 USD or $1,200 TTD for his transport service which usually lasts less than four (4) hours.  Different ships arrive at the LNG port daily.

Establishments like Villa Capri have for eons been providing service to seamen, business executives, loners and other individuals who for some reason or the other find solace by their visits. Some argue that it is a much needed service for men who are not in touch with female companions, while others take the view that it’s the way to go when wives become bitchy without reason.  Pleasure dolls provide relief without strings attached.  This may be the most contentious issue however, Seechan, who is a regular and is married, said that those who are talking must understand that men has serious pleasure needs and sometime the brick wall implemented by some wives are the sole reason for participation.

For years Villa has been conducting its illegal trade without much interference.  In recent times there have been regular police raids on the compound resulting in the deportation of female workers from Caribbean and Latin American countries.  Speculation was that since the owner became sick, “pay-off” to the authorities was not happening resulting in the raids.

There is also a suspected link between the importation of female workers from South America and the illicit drug trade.  A particular recent murder investigation has led police to believe that the trading of Pleasure Dolls was the main contributing factor.

In Trinidad, pleasure houses are not widespread and this makes the few that exist very popular.  With the exception of Villa Capri in the south, there are only two others which are well-known having the varied assortment similar to Villa.  One is located in Central and the other in North Trinidad.  Of course there are the more upscale social entities but this article takes into account those available for regulars. A few months ago I remember speaking to a male flight attendant onboard a trip from the USA to Trinidad who asked me how to get a taxi to Villa or the other place in Central. The impact of those institutions is international.

Another similar element available in Trinidad is “Street Dolls” operating mostly in Port of Spain.  On any given night if you should stop for five minutes at the playground at the corner of Robert and Murray Streets in Woodbrook, you would notice at least five “pick-ups”.  Business there is very hectic especially on weekends.

The demise of “Villa” has left many patrons wondering “where next”? Some say that there is no need to look far since in close proximity there is a long standing rival who has been playing second fiddle and is now ready to step up their game?  The challenge is, can they do it?

The Villa de Capri was comprised of four (4) buildings with over one hundred (100) rooms occupying almost an entire block in an upscale San Fernando neighborhood.  It was registered as a Hotel however the maximum length of stay for most guests did not exceed one (1) hour.

Ok the famous Villa Capri is closed, they holding the columbian women plus security guards in the shake down bust last week. You must know is a man running Pointalive website or this post will never make center stage report especially since the people been begging for a update on the page for so long>> Denz, no comment. Anyway I heard all the guys talk about the Villa, I believe that report of the owner sick and the law enforcement not getting their pay out so comes the bust, mafia style. I know the women won’t get any better jobs so the deportation process should be quick. As for the other businesses waiting in the wings have your payout money ready cause the rate increased immediately. Its 2008, taxi driver business won’t stop. Good luck

It seems to me these married men who have been and still frequenting these types of places do not understand about social diseases.First of all they do not respect or really love or care for their wives. When you are married you have to realise that your lifestyle has to change because you now have really important responsibilities.I know a lpt of men will disagree with me but if you disrespect your wife, by participating in these activities outside the sacred vows that you took, how do you think she would feel. If she was to do that to you, how would you feel?.You all need to find better things to do with your spare time. How about taking all that suppresed energy and using it in a positive way, like helping the children in the community with their schoolwork.Believe me it would be energy well spent.AH know some people saying ah doh know what ah talking about, but dat is because allyuh weak.Go home and tell yuh wife how much yuh really love and respect her.Yuh might get a happy feeling later..true.

Money is the root of all evil. No more bulling. Bulling with any Tom, Dick and Harry causes gravely diseases, germs, and de-humanizes our women.
Back to the money $$. When the terminal sickness starts, the evil money made is always a day late and 99 cents short to the dollar with the benefits of only misery and no medication towards healing. The building need to be burned down.

Its really a good thing to view the previous comments and realize that there is still a strong sense moral and spiritual value nested among us. In other communities / cities the views may have been more liberal.
It still goes to show that have a solid foundation which we can build on and that we are not yet too caught up with modern day society.

This topic was highlighted to have a feel of how our people think regarding subjects like this.

  15. g_street_empress... Says:

your very welcome justkool……. sometimes we as women need to speak up and say it as it is.. cause some of then men and ppl like to close their eyes and not accept reality….. sometimes we HAVE to stress on the BAD… for the good to be recognised….

  16. june Says:

Just for the sake of argument, do you think if there was a place with strong ,goodlooking, sexy men, women who have overweight, bitchy husbands would patronise?

  17. Fernando Says:

Great pt June. Chip n Dale made millions if not billions and is only dat no place like dat in trini so dem woman dem could go. If it had dey wud be more brassfaced than de men an even say dat dey man too jeleous n dat he aint secure emotionally an all dat. plenty ah we decietful too much, sin is sin whether in villacapri or being with yuh bes friend man. lust does cause ppl to do all kinda ting but we does do it and hide. sa wah, dem girls in villa does use protection, so i hear but on de outside ppl getting pregnant for other woman man. which one worse. mash up family life and still risking stds. wake up.

  18. pointman Says:

going to VILLA is like taking aspirin for cancer pain, relief is brief if any but de cancer still spreads- VILLA is neither de problem nor de solution it’s de symptom of an urge, which can be more powerful than drinking & gambling. The Bible writes about the ‘profession’ practiced at VILLA. While we wait for our emotional intelligence to catch-up to our moral, intellectual and social levels maybe we should have places like VILLA under strict health codes to ensure that it’s not a source for the spread of STDS etc. Now that VILLA is closed only means that some of the “pros” have gone underground- they have not stopped practicing. Have they been tested?

  19. bonnie2005 Says:

I thought the whole thing hilarious. I had a good laugh:
Woman Come – Man get ting
Man sick – Police vex and make raid
Man dead – Wife close down de place one time
Villa gone – man hul deh head an bawl, and
Wife hul deh head and bawl too - for joy
    Ah like it

  20. bmw760li Says:

Trini people is so backwards it’s like they are stuck in the past, this is Consensual between adults in a control environment whats the big deal.
Adult men paying for there pleasure no one is being harm, maybe they want these men to go out and RAPE then it would be another moral excuse, if you don’t like it stay away but don’t try to imposed you belief on the rest of society.

  25. Dr Arnott Seunarine Says:

    Denzil:
Greetings! You surrely have gotten folks to comment. Now permit me to offer another insight into this social condition that have existed for centuries. It is true that the Taxi Driver made a living by this trade while at the same time the Pleasure dolls ( Prostitutes etc) provided a service. Did you ever consider that this taxi man had a family to feed and so did the prostitute? In Point during the fifties, there were no Capri but there was Agatha AK A Pancup and others who provided this service and there were taxis who made sure that the sailors had clients right here in Point and on Tanner Street. As for Agatha and her friends of the trade, I knew of them and I knew how they assisted others who were less fortunate than them. As for one taxi driver, he provided enough food on the table and in turn, later on he was able to help his brothers and other friends to support their families. Of course, business was extremely good in Point. In those days, we did not have AIDS ( Maybe we had it and if so , it was called a different name. For example, it was called for a long time in Africa Slim disease.) Why do I sympathize with this group? My father was a taxi driver who accommodated both sides and as such our family had food on the table and did not starve.
    Give thanks

  26. anjie Says:

In the midst of all of this, I have to ask; where have morals and spirituality gone? I empathise with those ladies, and sometimes guys, plus those taxi drivers, who do what they do in order to butter dey bread, so to speak. People, there is always another choice. We just have to keep looking and if at first or second or third, we don’t succeed, well then just keep trying. There is help out there, although I think the Ministry of Social Services has to ramp up their delivery of these services, however as I said there is help. We just have to know where to look and be strong enough to get up, dust ourself off and try again when we get knocked down. I’m not saying that because it’s easy to say. I’m saying it because I’ve been through what I’ve been through, been knocked down a million times but got up a million and one. All these people are daughters, sisters, friends, mothers etc. or may have them in most instances. Just remember, with GOD…………all and I mean ALL things are possible……..Peace out guys, GOD bless………
