PALANCE 2010-
A MONSTER RUNAWAY HIT
I
really can’t express how much I love the 2010 Road March
Soca Monarch, winner, “Palance” - (any other result
will be a travesty) by JW & Blaze. This song scores a true
victory for authentic soca music. Not only is this song
received as the best “road song”, it is also the most
requested song for this year’s carnival season.
Much kudos goes out to the writer Kernal Roberts, son of the
Grand Master, Lord Kitchener and co-singer blaze, but the
real praise must be heaped upon JW (Jason Williams) for his
live performances showing people how to “palance”.
JW took the song to a new level just when some were
wondering whether the song was released too early to contend
for the Road March Title. Williams, being very skilled in
the field of entertainment, he combined his years or
experience whenever he hits the stage to produce a tutorial
on “palancin”. Hands outstretched, moving uncontrollably,
feet galloping and jumping in all directions, making this
song a monster runaway hit for this season. Click
here to view a live performance of "palance".
This “true soca” is a breath of fresh air since our younger
artistes seemingly believes that “riding a rhythm” is what
“new age” soca music is about, but here is a fully composed
and arranged masterpiece which leaves me wondering whether
we will be having a second place Road March Winner.
Not only will the song be the smash hit it has already
become, but the noun “palance”, has now been entered into
our “Trini” dictionary alongside a few others which includes
“lime”, “mamaguy” etc.
It has been
mentioned over and over that the best "lime" you can
find anywhere is Panorama Semi Finals in the Queens Park
Savannah, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. The food,
drinks, music, partying and definitely the most beautiful
females which can be found on planet earth are always right
there.
This year was no exception and we took our cameras with us
and would like to share with the world this spectacular
array of wonderful people. Click on any image above or

SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
In commemoration of small business
month 2010, the Financial Literacy Section of the Central Bank of Trinidad &
Tobago collaborated with the Point Fortin Borough Corporation to promote a two
(2) day symposium on small business development. “Pointing to new horizons
through entrepreneurship” was the theme chosen for the event which brought
together key stake holders relevant to small business development locally.
Participants registering for the symposium.
The first day of the
event featured a learning workshop where current and would be small business
owners were informed about necessities and strategies essential for starting and
developing a business. Presenters from various organizations spoke about how
their group can assist in entrepreneurial development; they included The
Ministry of Labour (Corporate & OSHA), Ministry of Legal Affairs, CARIRI, Youth
Business of Trinidad & Tobago and Central Bank. Participants were also lectured
to about etiquette and deportment in the workplace. This was hosted at the Town
Hall Auditorium in Point Fortin.
On the second day,
the venue shifted to the Victor Chin Kit Park was there was a display of booths
from various business entities which included, RBTT, Scotia Bank, NEDCO, ADB,
EMA, Trinidad & Tobago Tradesmen Association, NAMDEVCO and others.
On both days, Point
Fortin Mayor, Alderman Victor Mitchell delivered the opening remark and
performed the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon along with Deputy Governor of the
Central Bank, Dr. Shelton Nicholls, for the display of the booths.
The main sponsor of
the event sort to make known that they are the owner of the popular tagline
“It’s your money, know it to grow it”.
